Are you passionate about healthcare research and eager to make a real-world impact? The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Research Intern to join our Clinical Quality & Value (CQV) team in Summer 2025. This paid, part-time internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the development of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) products and contribute to meaningful clinical research.
As a Research Intern, you will:
- Assist in the development of clinical practice guidelines and appropriate use criteria to support various research projects.
- Evaluate and categorize medical study abstracts by study design and clinical significance.
- Extract and organize data from peer-reviewed literature.
- Calculate risk ratios, odds ratios, and mean differences.
- Apply statistical techniques to extracted data (e.g., statistical significance, meta-analysis).
- Create and maintain structured spreadsheets and databases.

Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an MPH or a similar graduate degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health sciences, or a related field.
- Strong interest in evidence-based research and healthcare quality.
- Familiarity with interpreting scientific literature and applying basic statistical techniques.
- Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with data.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Internship Details:
- Hours/Week: Flexible scheduling based on availability; interns are expected to average at least 15 hours per week. Interns may work up to 7.5 hours/day, Monday–Friday between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, for a maximum of up to 37.5 hours/week.
- Location: Hybrid. Initial in-person training and workspace will be provided at AAOS headquarters in Rosemont, IL (Higgins and River Rd.), accessible via the Blue Line Rosemont stop and I-90.
- Duration: 6–12 months
- Hourly Salary: $15.00/hour
