The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will provide quantitative and qualitative subject matter expertise to the Academy’s Membership, Marketing, Education, and e-Commerce customer base, including internal and external business stakeholders, to identify trends and outcomes that lead to decisions improving the business, financial, and customer service experience. This position is responsible for creating, refining, and utilizing a variety of modeling, analytics, and reporting tools to help interpret data and support the decision-making process. The incumbent will serve in a senior leadership role, assisting the Academy in its continuous improvement efforts of academy-wide data systems, including configuring data elements, generating reports, and integrating internal and external data sources. In collaboration with the Data Scientist, the Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will define and standardize data mining and statistical modeling techniques, creating new insights for business stakeholders and establishing scalable, efficient, automated processes for large-scale data analyses.
The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer role involves frequent interaction with senior leaders and executives. Candidates must navigate ambiguity, excel in a fast-paced environment, continuously improve technical skills, pay attention to detail, and collaborate with customers to translate business problems into requirements and deliverables.
Functions as the BI subject matter expert for platform development and administration, under direction of management. Ensure that the Academy is harvesting and maximizing knowledge and insights gained from analysis of transactional and historical data repositories. Acquires a deep understanding of the business questions or problems and proactively translate them into appropriate mathematical representations providing analysis for strategic priorities. Identifies and presents actionable patterns in data, and research data trends that will positively influence organizational decisions regarding industry and market changes thereby informing future product planning strategies.
Leads data analysis, identifies patterns, and generates actionable insights. Utilizes complex programs for data mining, trend searching, and data extraction from various sources. Collaborates with business stakeholders to analyze data using advanced models and statistics. Designs, builds, and maintains scalable BI solutions with Power BI and other visualization tools. Creates semantic data models and data marts for self-service analytics.
Develops standardized methods for database design and validation reports. Gathers data for a centralized warehouse with application analysis and data modeling. Extracts, interprets, and presents large volumes of data in clear charts and tables. Conducts business and financial analyses, providing accurate trends focused on actionable outcomes. Works independently with stakeholders to define analyses, develop complex models, and communicate findings effectively.
Develops and improves the Academy's analytics platform, manage BI environment health and cloud services. Performs capacity planning, enhances reporting models, schedules data refreshes, and monitors usage. Documents feasibility assessments, evaluates data gaps, and communicates with teams about data analysis and quality tasks. Establishes processes for security, monitoring, development, adheres to data management standards, and assists in creating prototypes as needed.
Integrates AI capabilities into BI solutions for enhanced data insights and automation. Builds and maintains AI-powered visualizations that leverage natural language generation, forecasting, or key influencer analysis to support executive decision-making. Collaborates with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to embed machine learning model outputs into Power BI reports and dashboards. Promotes best practices around analytical modeling techniques and data visualization

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, finance, statistics or math required, master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of overall IT industry experience relevant to this position
- 5+ years’ development experience with data visualization tools, including PowerBI desktop, services, embedded, and architecture
- Demonstrated experience with Azure Analysis Services, Azure Analysis Services Tabular Models and SQL Server Reporting Services
- Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Data Pipelines and Dataflows Gen2
- Solid understanding and implementation experience of Medallion Architecture
- Expertise in designing and implementing Star and Snowflake schema data models
- Strong understanding of Power Platform tools and Machine Learning Concepts
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with Azure data services (e.g., Data Lake, Data Mart, Azure SQL)
- Experience with CI/CD processes and version control in Power BI development environments
- Experience with Power BI Copilot, Azure Cognitive Services, or Azure Machine Learning.
- Experience with AI-powered visualizations that leverage natural language generation, forecasting, or key influencer analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in user-centered design to deliver intuitive and effective self-service BI solutions that enhance user adoption and engagement.
- Extensive experience in publishing and managing enterprise BI reports and applications, ensuring scalability, accessibility, and security compliance.
- Strong foundation in statistical concepts such as probability and inference, with the ability to support predictive analytics and advanced insights.

- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)

Desired:

- Experience with Association Management Systems a plus
- Microsoft certifications in Power BI or Fabric
- Experience with large-scale BI environments or enterprise-level reporting infrastructures
- Familiarity with HIPAA/HITECH regulatory requirements for Information Security & Data Privacy
Salary Range: $110,000-$120,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
