Director, Orthopaedic Research and Data Analysis

As the Director, Orthopaedic Research and Data Analysis, you will be responsible for aligning and directing the management, development and integration of orthopaedic research and data analysis in support of the AAOS registry program. You will also lead and define a scalable capacity model leveraging both internal and external resources to effectively deliver against commitments while ensuring and maintaining data quality and security.

The Director of Research Analytics leads the Combined Analytics Team (CAT), providing strategic and operational oversight for AAOS registry-based research and analytics initiatives. This role manages the full registry research portfolio, ensuring studies progress efficiently from concept development through analysis, dissemination, and publication. The Director partners closely with clinicians, statisticians, analysts, and external collaborators to translate complex registry data into high-impact evidence that advances orthopaedic care and informs practice. The Director is a collaborative leader with a strong working knowledge of research design, statistical methodologies, and interpretation of results, and is comfortable working alongside statisticians, while not being expected to conduct routine statistical programming or analysis.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health informatics, epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics and outcomes research, health data science, healthcare administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated project management and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives and balance competing priorities.
- 5+ years of research experience
- 2+ years of experience in clinical research, healthcare analytics, registry research, or related healthcare data environments.
- 3+ years of leadership or team management experience, including supervising staff, mentoring analysts, or leading cross-functional project teams.
- Master’s degree in a health-related or research-focused discipline preferred (e.g., MPH, MS, MHA, MBA, or related field).
- Understanding of clinical research methods and applied analytics, including study design, interpretation of statistical analyses, and translation of analytic results into meaningful insights for clinical and operational stakeholders.
- Experience managing complex research or analytics portfolios, including coordinating projects across multiple stakeholders, managing timelines, and ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with statisticians, analysts, clinicians, and external research partners to translate research questions into analytic plans and deliver impactful results.
- Strong operational mindset, including experience developing processes, workflows, and systems to support efficient research and analytics operations.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with physician leaders, researchers, external partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing research summaries, presentations, and reports for diverse audiences.
- Experience managing sensitive healthcare data, with knowledge of data governance, HIPAA, PHI protections, and IRB processes.
Desired:
- Experience working with healthcare registries, real-world evidence datasets, or administrative claims data.
- Familiarity with registry-based research, outcomes research, or quality improvement initiatives.
- Experience working with large healthcare datasets or analytic platforms, including collaboration with statistical programming teams using tools such as SAS, R, STATA, or similar platforms.
- Background or familiarity with orthopaedic research or musculoskeletal care delivery.
- Experience leading research or analytics initiatives within professional associations, healthcare organizations, academic centers, or research collaboratives.
Travel:
- Up to 7 days per year.
Salary Range: $102,000-$105,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
