As the Quality Improvement Specialist, you will develop and implement a national strategy to disseminate and publicize evidence-based quality products throughout the Academy and other medical and healthcare institutions. You will use your knowledge of public health communication to promote AAOS quality improvement initiatives, produce educational materials, support quality-related content, and help advance work tied to evidence-based medicine, clinical practice guidelines, systematic reviews, appropriate use criteria, and other quality programs.

In this role, you will support the dissemination and implementation of AAOS quality products, maintain content on OrthoGuidelines and AAOS.org quality pages, serve as staff liaison to the Evidence-Based Quality and Value Committee, and provide administrative and operational support to Clinical Practice Guideline and Appropriate Use Criteria development managers. Your work will help ensure AAOS quality resources are accurate, accessible, well-organized, and ready to support members, staff, and stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee dissemination and implementation activities for quality improvement, evidence-based medicine, OrthoGuidelines, guidelines, systematic reviews, and appropriate use criteria projects.
  • Coordinate with AAOS Marketing and Communications as appropriate to promote quality products and initiatives.
  • Oversee AAOS submissions to relevant clearinghouses, libraries, and governmental agencies.
  • Seek and develop new methods of dissemination and implementation, including potential funding requests, business plans, and summary reports.
  • Complete necessary reporting for the Research and Quality Council, Board of Directors, Committee Appointment Program Committee, and other groups as needed.
  • Manage the AAOS approval process for quality products and facilitate specialty society endorsement of quality projects.
  • Create documents and presentation decks for members and staff regarding AAOS quality programs and implementation initiatives.
  • Oversee and assist with the creation of educational materials related to evidence-based medicine and quality programs.
  • Contribute to drafts and publications for AAOS Now, medical journals, and other publications.
  • Support the development and writing of AAOS reporting and scientific projects.
  • Coordinate publications that are co-written and approved by member volunteer groups, including proofreading and managing the submission process.
  • Collaborate with AAOS fellows and the AAOS Department of Education to support educational materials such as online learning modules, plain language summaries, webinars, brochures, patient-focused materials, and press releases.
  • Develop and maintain AAOS Quality website pages, applications, information files, and related content.
  • Collaborate with members and subgroups of the Evidence-Based Quality and Value Committee to develop implementation materials for AAOS Quality products.
  • Contribute to the success of Evidence-Based Quality and Value Committee meetings and initiatives in partnership with the Director.
  • Coordinate the development and administration of work groups, including member solicitation, disclosure collection and tracking, and participation requirements.
  • Oversee scheduling and logistics for work group meetings in coordination with the development manager.
  • Coordinate review period processes by soliciting input and distributing review materials to stakeholders.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Committee on Evidence-Based Quality and Value.
  • Coordinate committee meeting dates, prepare agendas, collect and distribute materials, and take meeting minutes.
  • Manage committee composition, terms, vacancies, conference calls, monthly Chairs’ calls, email communications, and budget needs.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, life sciences, public health, communications, education, or a related field.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information for various stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative and customer-focused approach.
  • Proven ability to develop, edit, and deliver high-quality written content with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while effectively contributing to cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work in a dynamic environment.

Desired:

  • Two or more years of experience working with a medical association, healthcare organization, or professional membership organization.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based medicine, including clinical practice guidelines, appropriate use criteria (AUC), and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with healthcare research, physician education, clinical quality programs, or healthcare policy development.
  • Experience supporting committees, volunteer leaders, subject matter experts, or multidisciplinary stakeholder groups.
  • Understanding of medical publishing, educational content development, or healthcare-related project coordination

Travel:

  • Up to 7 days per year

Salary Range: $67,000-$69,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
